How to play Stairway to Heaven
Stairway to Heaven is a 30-second timing game. A ladder section swings back and forth above your ladder, and you drop it so it lands on top. Stack 20 sections before time runs out and you reach heaven.
Controls
Tap the screen, click, or press Space to drop the swinging section. Enter and the down arrow work too. You only get one section at a time, so every drop counts.
Hazards
The sky fights back. A ! warning appears just before a hazard arrives, so use it as your cue. Birds, planes, storms and gusts of wind can knock sections off the top of your ladder. Birds can show up from the start, while gusts, planes and storms only arrive later in the round.
Perfect drops and shields
A perfect drop lands within a few pixels of dead centre. Make three perfect drops in a row and you earn a shield, which blocks the next hazard that would have hit you. You can hold up to two shields at once. After a miss you cannot drop for a short moment, which is a penalty for mashing the button.
Scoring
If you reach heaven, your score is the time you had to spare. A faster climb means a higher score, and your best time is saved in your browser. If time runs out first, the game shows how many of the 20 sections you built.
Tips
- Drop as the section crosses the middle. Aim for the point where it passes straight over the ladder, not where it appears to be heading.
- Do not spam taps. A miss locks you out briefly, which usually costs more time than waiting for a clean drop.
- Keep a rhythm, and break it only when a warning appears.
- Play for the shield. Three perfect drops in a row is worth more than a fast but sloppy stack.
- Challenge a friend from the win screen. They try to beat your time to spare.
