How to play In Good Shape
In Good Shape is a 90-second block puzzle you play in your browser. An outline of a shape appears on the board, such as a house, a fish or a rocket, and you fill it by dragging blocks into it from the tray below. Fill the whole shape and you earn extra time and a bonus, and the next shape appears. The shapes start small and get bigger and stranger as you go.
Controls
- Phone or tablet: press a piece in the tray and drag it onto the board. While you drag, the piece floats a little above your finger so you can see exactly where it will land. Tap a piece without dragging to turn it a quarter turn.
- Computer: drag pieces with the mouse and click a piece to turn it. You can also tab to a piece and press Enter or Space to turn it.
When a piece fits, the board shows a preview of where it will go. Pieces only go inside the outline and only on empty squares. If a spot does not fit, the piece turns red and jumps back to the tray.
Moving pieces you have placed
Nothing is final. Drag a piece that is already on the board to move it somewhere else in the outline, or tap it to turn it where it sits. If you drop it where it does not fit, it slides back to where it was. Once the tray has an empty slot, you can also drag a placed piece back onto the tray to take it off the board.
Time, scoring and skipping
You start with 90 seconds. The tray shows three pieces at a time and refills as you use them. Every square you fill scores 1 point, and every finished shape adds 25 points and 10 extra seconds. Undo is free and takes back your last move. If a shape is giving you trouble, Skip moves on to the next one for 5 seconds. The squares you already filled still count.
Every shape is cut from the same pieces you are given, so a perfect fill always exists. If none of your pieces fit anywhere, the game tells you, and you can move pieces around, undo or skip. When you challenge a friend, they get the same shapes and the same pieces in the same order.
Tips
- Fill the awkward bits first. Tips, corners and one-square-wide arms only fit a few pieces. Save the open middle for last.
- Look at all three pieces before you place one. The piece that fits a tight corner may be waiting in another slot.
- Turn pieces in the tray, not in your head. A quick tap or two often shows you where a piece belongs.
- Fix gaps straight away. If you leave a single empty square that nothing can reach, slide a neighbouring piece over to close it rather than filling the rest.
- Finishing beats skipping. A finished shape is worth 25 points and 10 seconds, so a skip only pays when you are truly stuck.
