How to play Count Your Blessings
Count Your Blessings is a 30-second reaction game about listening. A crowd faces you and keeps shouting. Some people really do bless you, with phrases like “Bless you, friend!” Others shout something that only sounds similar, such as “Chess, anyone?” You press the big button only for the real ones.
Controls
- Press the big I was blessed! button, or hit Space on a keyboard.
- There is a 3-second countdown before the crowd starts. Spoken voices are on by default if your browser supports them, and you can switch them off on the start screen.
How scoring works
Shouts come quickly, between a third of a second and a second apart, and roughly four in ten are real blessings. A press only counts if it lands within 2 seconds after a real blessing.
- Each real blessing you catch is worth 100 points, plus up to 50 more for reacting quickly.
- Each press that was not a real blessing costs 40 points.
At the end, the game compares the number of times you pressed with the number of times you were really blessed, and gives you a rank: Blessing Master, Keen Ears, Pretty Good Listener, Slightly Distracted, or Were you asleep?
Tips
- Accuracy beats speed. The speed bonus is at most 50 points, but a wrong press costs 40, so wait until you are sure.
- Read the whole phrase. The decoys are built to sound like a blessing, so a quick glance at the first word is how you get fooled.
- Do not press to a rhythm. Your total can match the real count and still score badly, because each press has to land on a real blessing, not just add up to the right number.
- You have two seconds. A slightly late press still counts, so there is no need to panic-tap.
- Challenge a friend with the share link at the end. They get the same crowd you did, so the comparison is fair.
